SAFETY, RELIABILITY & INNOVATION:

An Interview with The Crosby Group CEO Robert Desel

INTERVIEW BY BOB GLENN, EDITOR.

From the Editor: In January of this year, Te Crosby Group announced their third acquisition in the space of just over a year. Te first among these was the U.K.’s Straightpoint, a leading manufacturer of load cells and force measurement equipment. Tat was followed by Gunnebo Industries, a global supplier to the lifting and material handling industry with products including crane blocks, wire rope sheaves, chain & lifting components, shackles and lashing products. And most recently, Feubo, which manufactures a complete line of long- term subsea mooring products used in a variety of offshore applications.

During the course of that time, Robert Desel, previously Te Crosby Group’s Chief Commercial Officer, was appointed CEO. We were interested in learning more about these acquisitions, and gaining perspective from the new leader about what we might expect from Te Crosby Group in the future. We are delighted to share this conversation that we recently enjoyed with Mr. Desel.

WIRE ROPE EXCHANGE: You were appointed CEO of Te Crosby Group in 2019, but had joined the company in 2017 and worked closely with the organization since 2013. Has there been a shift over that time in how Te Crosby Group is working to build its position in the market and how it serves customers?

ROBERT DESEL: Te Crosby Group has a long history now going back over 250 years with the Gunnebo Industries brand, and with that kind of history there’s bound to be a lot of change. But there is also a lot that does not change – our core values of Safety, Reliability and Innovation remain the same.

32 MARCH–APRIL 2020 WIRE ROPE EXCHANGE

What you see more recently is our continued and renewed investment to further support these core values, including:

• Our new plant in Longview, Texas – this is the largest new rigging hardware manufacturing facility in the world. It encompasses activities from forging to finishing in its roughly 250,000 square feet, and includes remarkable advancements in worker safety and ergonomics.

• Safe Rigging Trucks – this is a first-in-the-world service focused on bringing training to the job site, and is now engaging over 20,000 users annually.

• Increased Inventory – Te Crosby Group has the highest availability across more SKUs than any other manufacturer.

• Business Development Resources – Dedicated resources focused on supporting end-users and driving specification and preference for Te Crosby Group products.
