As the future of modern railway is debated, a dedicated South Yorkshire duo is working hard to preserve its legacy by transporting us back to the golden years of rail travel.
Fox & Edwards Events is run by
Julie Fox and Oliver Edwards who use their combined love of travel and history to organise heritage events across Yorkshire in the hope of inspiring others.
The pair first met at Barnsley College where they studied Travel and Tourism together. As part of their course, in 2018 they produced Home from the Front, a living history project based around Barnsley’s soldiers and nurses returning home from WWI via the rail network, which was held on-board an old locomotive at Elsecar Heritage Railway.
This sparked their new joint venture, with Fox & Edwards working with heritage railways
and venues to create exciting experiences for all the family. Along with excursions across
Yorkshire and Derbyshire aboard steam trains and vintage coaches, one of the newer events planned is The Tiny Trains Festival which makes its way to Elsecar this April. You can marvel at the model railway settings which range in sizes and gauges, from tiny tracks housed within vintage suitcases to a 40-foot-long display of the D-Day landings preparation. A great way to convey history to people of all ages, the models highlight some of the significant uses of trains throughout past generations, from British breweries to American cereal plants, coastal trains to modern diesels. The top-class models will be showcased by a network of talented craftspeople who will be around to answer any questions. There will also be trade stalls to pick up materials, locomotives and rolling stock for your own models.
