OUT & ABOUT

reignite a hobby or interest that may have fallen by the wayside. They can even benefit from complementary therapies such as a stress-relieving massage or a manicure to improve their well- being. Learning to manage stress, anxiety and depression at one of their workshops can also help. By dedicating so much time to one person, social connections and friendships may also take a backseat for carers. But Crossroads Care offer a carer befriending service – either in person or over the phone – to give carers the chance to talk to someone outside of the family unit.

Even if someone stops caring for whatever reason, they aren’t

just forgotten about. Through Crossroads Care, they can access their dedicated support service for up to two years following, in which time they are encouraged to attend groups and get back into paid work if necessary.

In order to help support and develop the fantastic service the organisation provides, The Corner also encompasses a small charity shop area made up of quality items, with all funds raised staying in Rotherham.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, there is also a large storage unit upstairs housing many more items that volunteers can bring down – kind of like a personal boutique shopping experience.

There is also a meeting and training room upstairs which can be hired by the likes of the carers’ forum, other charities or even local banks to offer debt and online shopping workshops. With all of this and more, The Corner Café is run by two managers who are supported by a loyal team of volunteers – from former carers,

to ex-teachers and even a chemical engineer – all of whom want to give back for various reasons. Crossroads Care are always looking for new volunteers to help across the many areas their service entails, such as befrienders, activity and support group leaders, admin and marketing, plus people to help in the new café and coffee shop.

The Corner Café and Charity Shop is open Monday to Saturday 9.30am-4.30pm 40 Bridgegate, Rotherham S60 1PQ Charity shop donations welcome
