Welcome I
n Aroundtown we always like to share stories about those exceptional people and unsung heroes in South Yorkshire. In this edition we have been overwhelmed by the people who have contacted us to share their amazing stories; from the Whiteknights Blood Bikes volunteers who work through the night to deliver critical supplies for the NHS and help them save on vital funds, to Barnsley’s forgotten genius Nicholas Saunderson who has inspired a new theatre show which at last gives him some well-deserved recognition.
As an all-female team, we are also proud to celebrate International Women’s Day and have met some of our region’s inspirational female leaders who are making great strides in their chosen fields. We always try to offer something for people of all ages and this edition is no exception with things to do for children and the older generation too, encouraging everyone to get out and about and enjoy themselves.
There’s a fun-filled colour exhibition for younger children at Cooper Gallery in Barnsley, a new walking cricket club for the older generation to remain active, and plenty of ideas for Mother’s Day and Easter.
The milder weather also encourages us all to get out and about so why not enjoy our suggested walk and see if you can spot some of the featured wildlife from our nature page.
Spring into action at home and in the garden with our tips and ideas about how to transform your spaces. There are many local businesses who can help, so please try to support your local independents.
