TRAINING IN EVENT PLANNING

Production director Tony Mason describes the processes to create Haddonstone’s cast stone products

MANUFACTURER BUILDS PARTNERSHIP WITH UNI

Haddonstone has again committed its support to nurturing young talent by launching a new partnership with the University of Northampton. The prestigious Northamptonshire stone manufacturer has provided a group of BSc (Hons) Product Design students with the opportunity to create new designs that could be added to Haddonstone’s commercial range of architectural, landscaping and garden products. As part of a live client project, 17

second year students were tasked with individually developing new ideas to form part of a new street

furniture range. The designs will be produced using Haddonstone’s unique cast stone materials. The project will be assessed as

part of the students’ degree programme and Haddonstone will award prizes to the best three design concepts. Haddonstone managing director

David Barrow said: “Nurturing local talent is very important to our company and we’re delighted to offer this group of students the opportunity to design new product ideas for Haddonstone’s range of street furniture. We hope to incorporate the winning design into

our product range.” University of Northampton senior

lecturer in product design, Friedemann Schaber, added: “The students have benefitted from a live client experience, furthering their creative and design management skills. In particular, this project supports a kinaesthetic learning approach, a teaching style in which learning takes place by the student actually carrying out a physical activity and interrogating the casting process with the designs of patterns and multiple part moulds.”

A new office, new team and new clients – it’s already shaping up to be a busy 2020 for the team at Pilkington Communications who this year celebrate seven years in business. The team, led by director Jessica Pilkington and head

effective reputation management, and all businesses – local, national or international, big or small, private or

public – can benefit from planned public relations activity and clear messaging so make sure you review, plan and integrate all your communications.” To support businesses the company has launched a

new PR Toolkit for 2020 – free to all Northamptonshire Chamber members. Here are a few extracts: • Plan ahead: Create a PR and Content Calendar template and map out your annual, quarterly, weekly and daily content. • Awards: Great for employee motivation and for a

third-party endorsement. The awards logo will be a great addition to your website, social media and email signatures. • Think social: Digital content should be a key part so we favour at least two mini films a month. Make sure you caption them too – this dramatically boosts interaction and views. • Free online tools: Check out Canva for basic design work, Google Alerts for keeping a track of coverage and Hootsuite for scheduling social media content.

Award-winning agency Sheer Edge Ltd is launching a series of exciting new event management training workshops. At the end of February, the

business will hold its first two interactive workshops covering the essentials of event management for newcomers to the industry and an intermediate session on indoor exhibitions for seasoned event professionals looking to further enhance their skills. Further workshops are also

due to be held in June and September. Sheer Edge managing

director Jo Ferreday said: “At Sheer Edge we save our clients time and money and give them guidance to help them reach their objectives. These workshops mirror that service by providing guidance and support to events professionals. “Delegates will leave the

workshops with a blueprint to help them plan and run future events. We’re effectively offering them a helping hand to make their event planning more robust. “We’ve offered similar

training to our clients in-house in the past and it became apparent there was a demand for workshops of this kind that were open to a wider audience.” The essentials workshop

helps newcomers to event management to get to grips with a range of topics, including budgets, venues, event content, delegate experience and communication and marketing. The intermediate sessions look at different events and the focus of future sessions may include outdoor exhibitions, dinners or industry-themed events.
