WORKERS WANT MORE FLEXIBILITY
National SME Business Awards winners Parm Bhangal and Robyn Allen
HONOUR AT NATIONAL LEVEL FOR LOCAL FIRMS
Two county businesses have picked up four awards at the National SME Business Awards. Parm Bhangal, of Bhangals
Construction Consultants, won the Gold Award in the Young Entrepreneur of the Year category and Bronze for Business Person of the Year. And there was success for
insurance broker Robyn Allen, of Robyn Allen Solutions Ltd, who received two silver awards for Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Mentor of the Year. Parm, 31, was recognised for
‘demonstrating a high degree of entrepreneurship, creativity and vision for the future’.
He has created three successful
businesses in nine years – Bhangals Construction Consultants, estimating firm My Build Estimate and Azadi Properties, which manages his property portfolio. Parm said; “I love what I do and
to be recognised for this on a national level, at an iconic venue like Wembley Stadium blew me away.” Robyn was put through for
Young Entrepreneur of the Year after winning the regional Young Business Person of the Year award at the Northamptonshire SME Business Awards. Despite only being in business
for three years, Robyn is a non- executive director and trustee with
several organisations, delivers money skills workshops at her local college, and mentors new start-up businesses in her own time. She is also a trained GRIT (Growing Resilience In Teens) mentor to teenagers. Throughout 2019 Robyn
mentored her administrator Jasmin, who also has her own fitness business. Robyn said: “My two biggest
highlights of 2019 relate to voluntary activities - becoming a Northamptonshire Chamber board director and Home-Start trustee and seeing Jasmin get a Runner-Up award for Best New Business at a local business awards ceremony.”
HANNAH’S IN THE DRIVING SEAT
ACS Recruitment has established a new Logistics, Freight and Supply chain permanent recruitment desk. The desk will be headed up by
commercial manager Hannah Hewitt who has worked within recruitment for 17 years and has been with ACS Recruitment for eight years. Hannah has worked closely with
transport and logistics organisations across the UK learning the industry inside and out and has had real success in this arena. She said: “I love working in the
logistics industry. Watching organisations grow and seeing the people you place into roles flourish is truly inspiring. “I’m excited to be solely focusing
on this industry which is continuing to buck the trend and has
witnessed some impressive growth locally and nationally.” ACS Recruitment has proven to
be a solid and reliable provider to the logistics industry in Northamptonshire, providing over 500 temporary staff. They have developed a really
strong product with this onsite model which has seen a significant

increase in clients over the past three months and continues to show real promise for the future. Sales and operations manager
Chris Wright added: “The logistics and supply chain permanent recruitment market was a natural step for us as a business. We have seen some significant growth, placing logistics managers with a variety of clients so we’re delighted to add this to our portfolio as a focus area. “It complements our current
offering tremendously and will enable us to grow within this industry, country wide. We’re excited to see where the next 12 months will take us.”

Workers in the East Midlands are opting for multiple jobs and the flexibility of temporary roles, according to new research. The research, carried out by
recruitment experts Reed Specialist Recruitment for its Temporary isn’t Temporary campaign, surveyed 5,000 workers on their experience of, and attitude to, temporary and multiple career roles. When asked about the
benefits, 34% cited work-life balance as the main advantage, 22% believed a varied work experience would boost their CV, 18% looked to temporary work to avoid getting stale at a company and 17% enjoyed the new challenges from this style of working.
‘TEMPORARY WORKING IS APPEALING DUE TO THE FLEXIBILITY’
The survey also revealed
why workers are deterred from temporary working. Almost half (47%) prefer the security of a permanent role and 40% identified the benefits of permanent roles, such as pensions or sick pay, as important. Rob Russell, regional managing director of Reed East Midlands, said: “For workers in Northampton, temporary working is appealing due to the flexibility and variety of experience that comes with it. “Our research indicates the
concerns people have about temporary working stem from financial and security reasons. However, Reed Specialist Recruitment as well as others offer pension, holiday pay and sick pay to temporary PAYE workers. With this barrier removed there’s little stopping workers from chasing their flexible working dream.”
