singing “We Wish you a Merry Christmas” the gentlemen asked for ‘figgy pudding’ and the ladies demanded ‘and bring some out here’; brilliant. The U3A Christmas lunch was held at Dartmouth Golf
& Country Club which almost 100 members attended. It was a very blowy day so we were all pleased to get inside out of the cold and enjoy a Christmas drink. The ladies looked very lovely, some wearing Christmas hats and some Christmas lights in various guises; there were necklaces, earrings and headgear. Really pretty. The gentlemen were equally well turned out with the Vice Chair, Neil Martin, dressed in a Christmas sweater with so many lights. It was great fun. It had been decided not to have crackers this year, to save on the plastic and waste. No one seemed to mind, and it was still a very festive occasion. Before the meal the Singing for Pleasure Group encouraged everyone to sing Christmas carols. Altogether a very pleasant, friendly, warm get together.
DAVID FOLLETT - PARA-ATHLETE
In January’s meeting, we were very fortunate to have David Follett as our speaker. David was hit by a car in a very serious accident in April 2007. He received a spinal cord injury which means he is an incomplete tetraplegic. His list of achievements as a Class 1 Para-badminton athlete is amazing.
He continually travels the world to compete in
tournaments. His website shows him as 22nd in the world and 2nd in England. David has been an Olympic torch-bearer, and he said this was a fantastic experience. His main focus is to attend the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo and he is training hard to be one of the top ten players in the world.
