The energy and ambition of this old trouper came to the attention of the racing car team, McClaren. They sent Gareth Howell, one of their top test drivers with the latest McLaren 720s Spider to the Classic Car Show to support The Tractor Run.

Time for a bizarre selfie in the pub car park… “The Tor- toise & the Hare”, a beaten-up 20mph tractor sitting next to an immaculate 200mph supercar! The team collected £650 at the launch. They were off the blocks.

Top, opposite page: John, set about the mammoth task of rebuilding the lifeless heap of rusting tractor into a gleaming chariot.

John’s main mission is to raise enough money to

allow our local Devon Air Ambulance to take to the air, saving lives, on at least four missions. The Tractor Run will pass through the regions covered by other Air Ambulance charities, where John will provide an opportunity for air ambulance fundraisers in those regions to use his epic journey for local fundraising events for their air ambulances. The stage is set. Local sponsors, who share his commitment to Devon

Air Ambulance, have begun filling the pot which has helped refurbish the old tractor using only British made tractor parts. A full list of current sponsors and patrons can be found on the website www.thetractorrun.org.uk. More sponsorship and donations are needed. Treasur- er, Keith Beaumont will explain how to donate to or sponsor The Tractor Run keith@thetractorrun.org.uk Martin Howell, is the person to contact about fund raising events for The Tractor Run. What can you do to help them reach their goal and bring the need for Air Ambulances to everyone’s attention? Contact Martin with your ideas – martin@thetractorrun.org.uk Join in this adventure!

John and his trusty tractor are aiming to start off from John O’Groats on Thursday 21st May. The full itinerary is found on the website and includes The Loch Ness Visitor Centre in Fort Augustus (Sat 23rd May); the Glen Nevis Distillery at Ballachulish (Sun 24th May); Vintage Tractor Rally in Perth (Tues 26th May); Knock Hill racing circuit at Bathgate (Wed 27th May); M4 Carting Circuit in Chippenham (Mon 1st June) and the Royal Cornwall Show in Wadebridge (Thurs 4th June). The aim is to be at Land’s End on Fri- day 5th June and then back home to a hero’s welcome in Aveton Gifford on Sunday 7th June. What an Adventure! What a photograph! What a Man!
