LINKING LOCAL BUSINESS

Inspiring speakers at our first Business Club of the year ENTERPRISING STUDENTS FROM KINGSBRIDGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE & PAULINA KUBAS FROM ACTIVITIES 115

On Wednesday 29th January, on what was otherwise a rather grey and dull day, we welcomed seventy people to our first Business Club of the year at South Sands Hotel. The fire was warming, staff all welcoming and it was absolutely lovely to see members and newcomers greeting old friends and making new ones! Our speakers for the evening

were, in short, inspiring. From Kingsbridge Community College we were introduced to Jenny, a young lady who is working with the KSCC to design the 2020 trophies for the Youth and Business Awards - we’re still open for nominations - so, if you know an inspirational 16-25 year old please tell us all about them via our website nomination form. We were then introduced to a group of six enterprising

students who are taking part in the Young Enterprise Programme. The young men are in year eleven at the college and have to create a legally registered company from scratch, sell their product and later in the year they’ll be pitching to the judges for a chance to be entered into the regional finals. It’s a superb experience for everyone involved and, as they are a social enterprise company, all profits will go to charity. If you want to know more, contact their Chairman, Daniel Gamble by emailing: Gambled14@kingsbridgecollege.org.uk. The KSCC are now working in conjunction with

Kingsbridge Community College on their Professional Practice Award; this is an award given to sixth form

students who have demonstrated themselves as a professional both in and out of the classroom. The award can be used to inform future educational institutes or employers that individuals have reached a high professional standard during their higher learning education. The KSCC are proud to be associated with this award, especially as we understand that no one else in the country is being recognised on this basis. We look forward to telling you more about this in due course.

Paulina Kubas from Activities 115

also introduced herself to members; if you haven’t yet met Paulina go and say hello! Activities 115 is based at the top of Kingsbridge Fore Street and is open most days from 9am to

5pm. They offer a wide range of activities, courses, classes, training, job and social opportunities as well as accessible kitchen and toilet facilities. Unless pre- booked, feel free to drop in and use the downstairs area as a social space, a place for you to catch up with some work on your laptop, enjoy your lunch there or just use it as somewhere to relax - we know they have an amazing coffee machine so we’ll be dropping by shortly.

In the next issue we look forward to introducing you to more of our members, in the meantime look out for our “Who am I” posts on Facebook and don’t forget to make your Youth and Business Award nominations via the website.
