FROM Fat TO W

ell, the food fest that is Christmas hasn’t been quite such a disaster as

it might have been althoug, as my son keeps complaining that we will still be eating festive fare until at least the end of March, there is still time for it to get worse. Only 3lbs gained – and, believe me, I am totally surprised it wasn’t so much more. Quite apart from the added weight, having had a break from my sessions with Claire over Christmas and New Year, I was des- perately in need of being ‘taken in hand’ again so, by the time it came around, I was eagerly anticipating our first meeting of 2020. And it went well, or so I thought - Claire may have differing views – in that I wasn’t quite as out of shape as I expected although, to be fair, Claire was kind to me, keeping our exercise repetitions to 6 each time, rather than the usual 8. However, I suspect that latitude won’t last …

and quite rightly so. There is little point in Claire de- vising carefully planned bespoke routines for my sessions with her, addressing specific problems (eg balance) or gradually developing core strengths; improving my breathing capacity whilst working on increasing my flexibility, if I do not put in the effort, not only when with her but in between sessions too. She is not a ma- gician and simply having a personal

trainer is not some magic wand alterna- tive to doing the hard work! Nothing happens

overnight – I always knew it was going to be a long

haul; after all, there were many years of sedentary occupations and minimal physical activity to be reversed!

I am hugely grateful to Claire for all the time she puts in between our sessions creating and reviewing her programme for me, taking into account how I cope with particular

activities or equipment. Thanks to her, I know I am doing the exercises correctly and that I am also doing the correct exercises for my needs. So here’s to continuing fun and laughter with Claire come rain or shine!

AMANDA’S STATS – JANUARY 2020 Height: 5’

Weight:14st 9lbs- 3lbs Gain – it was Christmas, what did you expect? Dress Size:20 BMI: 40.2 - And unsurprisingly still obese

Fitness Level : By supplementing the work I do with Claire and my ‘homework’ with regular walks, I am definitely getting stronger and feeling better, generally. As an added benefit, after many years of being a very poor sleeper, that has improved too so I feel far more refreshed during the day - even those when I have not had an early morning session with Claire.
