Marketing Peak District scales new heights


Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire’s quest to promote the area as a world-class destination has been given a huge boost after it was recognised in three of the travel industry’s top awards. The organisation won bronze


in the prestigious British Travel Awards, which are considered the benchmark for excellence in the travel industry and voted for by the public.

It marks the second year in a


row that the area’s official tourist board has scooped bronze in the ‘Best UK Holiday County or Region’ category – fending off stiff competition from key contenders Devon, Cumbria and the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. The announcement came amid


a year of success for tourism in the Peak District and Derbyshire after the destination also reached the final of the i news Staycation Awards, which celebrate the quality and


diversity of Britain’s thriving domestic travel industry. The Staycation Awards also


showcased the area’s eco- tourism; Hoe Grange Holidays self-catering accommodation received accreditation for its shortlisting in the sustainable tourism category. Matlock’s Landal Darwin


Forest was also crowned ‘Best in Britain: Large Resort’, along with ‘Best Relax and Explore’ destination at the Hoeseasons’ annual gala awards. Jo Dilley, Managing Director of


Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire, said: “We are delighted that our world-class destination has been recognised in these prestigious awards. “We have so much to offer,


from specially-protected landscapes, adventurous outdoor activities and award-winning attractions to rich history and heritage, quality accommodation and delicious, locally-produced food and drink – so it’s brilliant to be rewarded in this way. “The area saw a 13.5% increase


in overnight stays with more than 42 million overall visitors – and these awards clearly showcase how the Peak District and Derbyshire is a top-quality choice for both domestic and international visitors.”


Firm continues work with National Grid


Law firm Shakespeare Martineau has been reappointed to National Grid’s panel of legal advisers, following a competitive tender process. The firm, which has a specialist energy team led by Partner, Andrew Whitehead, has secured one of ten available spots on the panel.


Running for three years, with the possibility of two one-year

Flint Bishop moves into Birmingham legal market


Following its most successful year to date, Derby-based law firm Flint Bishop, which employs 187 lawyers and support staff, has opened its new Birmingham office. The new West Midlands operation will be based in Birmingham’s


business district at Grosvenor House on Bennetts Hill. Flint Bishop will have an immediate presence of lawyers working in


insurance litigation, commercial litigation and debt recovery followed by further teams in other practice areas.
