When visitors feel the bump as they cross a cattle grid, they know they have entered Dartmoor National Park. It’s like driving into another world with wide open landscapes, famous tors, hidden forests, glades and waterfalls all waiting to be explored. Dartmoor is a staggering 368 square miles (roughly the same size as London). This ancient rugged landscape was the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles. It is a place to walk, sit and reflect and, of course, to meet the ponies who regularly wander along the roads.


Dartmoor is the source of the River Dart with numerous natural pools. It’s also popular for watersports and other active adventures. Explore the iconic Becky Falls, visit Spitchwick for a bit of wild swimming or drop into the River Dart Country Park to float around on a zorb and hang from the hire wires.


Dotted around Dartmoor’s stunning landscapes are many historic towns and villages worth visiting. Stop off in Chagford to pick up an antique, see the beautiful thatched cottages in Lustleigh or learn about the history and life inside one of the
