Local couple create ethical and sustainable sleepwear
A love of all things sleep-related, a young son with eczema and a desire to tackle the fashion industry’s impact on the environment has inspired a local couple to create their own ethical and sustainable sleepwear range. Sleepy Wilson is the brainchild of
Tunbridge Wells-based Paula and Tom Wilson, whose new venture making luxury silk pyjamas that marry comfort, style and sustainability is hitting the right note with fashion and planet-conscious consumers. Sleepy Wilson is based on the
transformative power of sleep and knowing that we are at our best when we are rested and revitalised after a good night’s shut eye. Years of stressful jobs, moving houses (and countries
twice) and having two children had left Paula and Tom constantly fantasising about sleeping deeply and restfully, and when their young son developed eczema and started over-heating at night in synthetic high street PJs, they decided to put their background in fashion product development to good use to create a range of their own to help people in a similar situation. They use the highest grade 19mm silk
– a renewable, biodegradable source that is also naturally temperature regulating, breathable, hypo allergenic and antibacterial to help cool the skin and promote a better night’s sleep. With added 6% stretch, they’re also supremely comfortable. For Paula and Tom, it’s no longer enough
to just make a beautiful product – the fashion industry is one of the worst contributors to the global climate crisis – so the couple are committed to using biodegradable materials across all of their products, from pyjamas to packaging. They have no toxins, harmful chemicals or single use plastics in their production and they promote full visibility of their supply chain from raw material to delivery. Even their mailer bags are fully compostable and biodegradable. They’re also part of “Fashion Revolution” and “Labour behind the Label”, who campaign globally for garment worker’s rights, transparency and a fair wage for all concerned. • Visit
