Brace yourself for more mobility I
The Thuasne ActionReliever brace is proven to be a cost-effective method to bridge and delay surgery for patients with uni-compartmental knee arthritis
t is estimated that fi ve million people here in the UK suffer with knee osteoarthritis, a fi gure set to grow to 8.3 million by 2035. Each year around 100,000 primary knee replacement operations are conducted, at an average cost of £6,000-7,000 per operation.
Proven to be a cost-effective method to bridge and delay surgery for patients with uni- compartmental knee arthritis, the Thuasne ActionReliever has the potential to both alleviate pain and reduce the cost burden.
A recent study showed that
patients who wore a dynamic off- loading brace, such as the Thuasne ActionReliever, for two years or more did not require surgery at eight years follow-up. The study also showed that use of an unloader knee brace can
improve a patient’s quality of life. This
was further endorsed by a randomised controlled study, which looked at the effect of the brace on pain- free walking,
and showed that by wearing the brace the pain on
exertion was reduced and the pain-free
distance was extended.
How it works • The ActionReliever has a unique off-loading action utilising straps to create a dynamic 3-point pressure system that is most effective on heel strike. It is available
for both medial or lateral uni- compartmental osteoarthritis. • A combined rigid adjustable hinge on the affected side and fl exible stay on the unaffected side. • For comfort, the
ActionReliever features
anatomically shaped straps, that are self-oriented and adjustable, and the anatomical knitting has no compression areas at popliteal crease and at brace edges to maximise comfort. • There is silicon thread
integrated to the knitting, while the cross-strap capture system allows the proper anchoring of the straps during the gait cycle.
• For ease of use, there are only two steps for fi tting with
effortless magnetic buckles with a fi nger loop. • The Thuasne
ActionReliever is slim and discreet to wear under clothing and is comfortable enough to
wear all day. NHS
Thuasne also has the distinction of recently being listed under Part IXA - Appliances of the Drug Tariff (knee pressure offl oading device) and may now be prescribed on the NHS by your GP.
