WELCOMES MP TO CRANBROOK

In the run-up to last month’s General Election, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Maidstone and The Weald, Helen Grant, called in on The Hive in Cranbrook, the town’s fi rst-ever co- working, hot desking and social hub. As Cranbrook’s very fi rst full-service hot desking and social hub for local business people and the community, The Hive is a brand new concept, incorporating elements of a new-age internet cafe and a collaborative co-working centre, but delivering so much more besides. The family-run venture offers the opportunity of fl exible working to the town’s entrepreneurs in its internet cafe as well as providing a social centre and tasty Greek food for shoppers and tourists. Helen said: “This an impressive and innovative venture which responds to the ever-changing needs of the modern workplace whilst also creating a social hub at the heart of Cranbrook’s wonderful and unique rural community. “Supporting businesses to create jobs for local people is an absolute priority for me, particularly in our more rural areas and I am delighted to offer this new project my support.”

Plant Hunter talks time in captivity & growing up in Kent

Plant Hunter Tom Hart Dyke, known for creating the World Garden at his home in Lullingstone Castle in Kent, was guest speaker at Otford-based charity Hospices of Hope’s two-course lunch at Buxted Park Hotel, held to raise funds for hospice care in south east Romania. Tom, who fi rst shot to international

prominence in 2000 when he was kidnapped in the Colombian jungle on a plant hunting expedition that went dangerously wrong, talked about growing up at Lullingstone Castle in Eynsford, his

time in captivity in Colombia, and fulfi lling his dream of creating the World Garden at Lullingstone – a project conceived whilst he was held prisoner.

Speaking about the event, Hospices of Hope fundraising and resources manager, Anna Perolls, said: “We had a superb lunch and we are so grateful to Tom for supporting Hospices of Hope. The event raised over £900 which will help us continue to support and develop hospice care in south east Europe where services for people with life-limiting or terminal illness are desperately needed.”
