CHARITY OF THE MONTH
OUT IN FORCE...
The Mayor of Sevenoaks, Councillor Nicholas Busvine OBE, held an inaugural breakfast for Armed Forces veterans at the recently refurbished Bat & Ball Cafe in Sevenoaks when 20 veterans enjoyed bacon rolls and a chance to chat and meet with other service personnel in the informal setting. The Mayor, who chose the Armed
Forces Charity SSAFA as one of his charities, being an organisation close
to his heart as a former diplomat who regularly served alongside the Armed Forces, said: “It was an honour to meet so many former service personnel and humbling to hear their stories. I feel by enabling them to get together and share their experiences is a small but valuable contribution, particularly as representatives of SSAFA, who as the leading Armed Forces Charity, were present and able to provide advice and support if needed.”

Life & Soul are a local charity in Tunbridge Wells working with children and young people age 0-25. They deliver assemblies, mentoring, resilience workshops, relationships education and play therapy in local primary and secondary schools and at a hostel for homeless youth. The aim through all their work with young people is to raise their self-esteem and help them accept and celebrate who they are, discover their voice, gain knowledge and be empowered to make wise life decisions. Since 2003, Life & Soul have supported homeless teenage parents and have identifi ed patterns contributing to young homelessness and young pregnancy. These insights direct their prevention work within local schools. Amongst their work is Connect Mentoring, where students are given 30 minutes of dedicated one-to- one support. Life & Soul supports more than 40 young people in three
local secondary schools each week. The professionally-trained mentors listen, encourage, empower and raise self-esteem of the students. If you know a child who is struggling, please ask their school’s welfare team if they have Connect Mentoring within their school. If you want to help more children receive support, please consider supporting Life & Soul, your monthly gift would mean so much. Thank you. • Visit
