2020: TIME TO MAKE A CHANGE 025

Whether you’re determined to lose

weight and get fi t, make

changes to your fi nances or get your legal affairs in order, resolve a

relationship issue or simply feel in need of a makeover, you really do deserve the best things in life – and that includes making 2020 your best year ever!

O

nce the celebrations of New Year’s Eve have faded and the Christmas spirit has waned, how do you seize the momentum of the coming year and take

positive steps towards the life you want to lead? Take some time out, consider what you want to achieve in the coming year, and assess which areas of your life deserve more attention. If you’ve ever set out to achieve anything, you know that it’s not always easy reaching the end goal. With the third Thursday of this month tipped as the day most of us are likely to abandon our New Year resolutions, here are fi ve tips to help you achieve your aims.

1. Be Realistic. Remember that your goals should be challenging but attainable. Don’t set yourself up for failure. Be realistic and provide yourself the time and resources you need to truly achieve your resolution. 2. Be Specifi c. In order to reach your goals one by one, you need to be very clear on what they are and what it will take to achieve them. Failure begins with vague or weak goals. Make it something that you have to work for, but also make it clear and manageable. 3. Appreciate Your Successes. When you

fi nd yourself successful in your journey, give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back. Congratulating yourself when you’re doing well will ensure that you reinforce the changes you’re making, and more likely to make them a habit for the future. 4. Don’t Beat Yourself Up Over Failure. Failure is itself an important thing in life – we learn invaluable lessons every step of the way. Keep this in mind when you fi nd yourself not sticking to a resolution. Just remember to try to push yourself to pick it back up where you left off! Focus on the positives, and learn from the negatives. 5. Do It Because You WANT To! New Year resolutions are all about becoming healthier, happier, and more successful all-around. Your happiness and wellbeing is important. Choose a resolution that makes you feel good in your life. Recognise that and keep pushing forward.

Tradition V 2020?

Modern day New Year resolutions include cutting back on social media, leaving work on time – and taking fewer selfi es, a study has found. While age-old resolutions such as dieting and giving up cigarettes are still on the list of pledges for January, a dwindling number of smokers and year-round healthy- eating have seen a host of other resolutions become popular. Now people are choosing a digital detox, with vows such as having fewer Facebook friends, sharing less on social media and not looking at a phone or tablet screen before bed among the top modern resolutions. Other popular resolutions today include travelling more, watching less TV and calling people more often instead of sending a text message.
