Faircracker FALL 2019

WFA, IFEA and OABA. Our newly developed Merchant Taskforce, along with the IAFE Concessions and Commercial Exhibits Com- mittee, will focus a discus- sion on the challenges fac- ing our commercial exhibi- tors and fairs on Sunday, December 1st during this convention .

NICA takes great pride Last year in San Antonio, Jessica Underburg, IAFE

Chair, challenged us to be Champions of Change. NICA agrees that change is necessary to step forward into growth. As 2019 comes to a close we celebrate the changes we have seen already.

As a membership organization, our first priority is to grow our membership and to provide value to the members we serve. Our numbers continue to in- crease as we explore many avenues of obtaining them. The Council program has been successful in member recruitment and has had great success with its fundraising focus. As “Champions of Change” our Northeast Council members, attending the Erie Coun- ty Fair in Hamburg NY, raised $17,000 to purchase steers at the 4-H Auction. The meat was donated to the Western New York Food Bank. At the Big E mon- ey was raised to support the 4-H steer auction with 2 steers purchased and $1500 donated to the program. The West Council donated $1000 to the Fairplex Child Development Center and $1000 to the South San Di- ego Boys and Girls Club. Our concessionaires strive to support the communities that invite us to come in and do what we love to do, serve.

NICA was originally formed 26 years ago to give the

concessionaire a voice in the industry. We continue to follow that mission. We were present at 14 state and national level industry gatherings this year providing round tables, educational seminars or NICA updates. Our communication committees have resulted in great changes for the industry: lowered percentages, elimination of deposits and transfer of ownership to name just a few. We continue to strengthen our rela- tionships with our sister organizations such as IAFE,

that we provide $25,000 in educational scholarships and new this year we are offering five, $500 travel scholarships to attend the IAFE or WFA Conventions or NICA’s EXPO. Our hope is to provide the assistance to those that need it and we know they will definitely gain from attending these industry events. We have been researching the opportunity to provide Association based health care for our members and we see that coming together soon. NICA is developing a 501C3 foundation in ef- forts to offer more scholarships and donation possibil- ities for our supporters.

Kathy Ross, President NICA

We thank Jessica for challenging all of us to become

“Change Agents.” Through our progress in education, scholarships and advocacy NICA is proud to be among the many who are meeting the challenge to become Champions of Change.
