Are Your Spectators Sitting Safely?

your fair? Is your seating putting your visitors at risk of injury, and putting you at risk of liability? Many fairs have homemade wooden bleachers for specta-

tors to watch the entertainment at their events. While it may be the cheapest option at the time, is it the best op- tion? Wooden bleachers require a lot of maintenance to ensure the boards and structure are strong enough to hold the weight when full of spectators. Wooden bleachers also present a danger to people who are elderly or handi- capped, as they usually do not have stairs or hand railings, making climbing up and down them difficult. Children are at risk of falling through the gaps between rows, and un- fortunately there have been numerous tragedies as a re- sult. Using wooden bleacher seating is usually done because it

is the only cost-effective option available. Often, the only alternative is to have scaffolding companies come in and custom build tiered seating on-site, which is very expen- sive. BleacherRentals.com began because we wanted to solve

this issue. We run a rodeo on our farm each summer, and had the same challenge when we began. Our first year we rented wooden bleachers, as it was the only cos- effective option available to us. Our biggest complaint from visitors was the seating, so we went to other events which used the same wooden bleachers and as soon as we watched, we saw why. Many people had difficulty climbing up to find a seat without stairs or hand railings. We attended with our young child, who wanted to crawl all over and we were afraid of him falling and being injured. As a result, we re- searched what the building codes actually require for bleacher seating, and what other options were available. The International Building Code requires tiered seating to

have 4 foot wide stairs with hand rails, enclosed risers, and vertical spindles on side and back railings. Our mobile grandstand units are engineered and built in the United States and exceed all IBC requirements. Often the building code is ignored by event organizers because there just isn’t another feasible option available to them. We started by having four fold-and-go mobile grandstand

units custom built, to provide the seating for our own event. We went through the process of having everything properly licensed and insured and then offered to rent them to other local fairs and events who were having the same challenge of finding safe, affordable seating. Within one year of opening, the business grew so quickly that we had 15 mobile grandstand units and provided seating to

almost 100 events in Southern Ontario (Canada). After our first winter, when our bleachers are mostly sit- ting unused (remember, Canada is cold and snowy De- cember to March!), we realized that our bleachers could be put to better use in the warm south over these months. We did more research and found that Florida fairs and events had the same issue as us finding seating that is both safe and affordable. We went to work licens- ing and insuring all of our units to be rented in the Unit- ed States, and specifically Florida. In fall of 2019, we officially began renting mobile bleacher units in Florida. We are ready to expand and help your fair provide spec- tators with seating that is safe and more comfortable, while also being cost effective for event organizers. We offer 10 row and 15 row mobile grandstands. They offer more seating per frontage (our 15 row unit is 50 feet long and holds up to 450 people), which is important to allow a maximum number of people see your most popular events. They are safer and more accessible than wooden bleachers. They are in accordance with the In- ternational Building Code, and fully insured, which drasti- cally reduces the liability for event organizers. If you would like to see more or get a free quote, please visit us online at www.BleacherRentals.com , find us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, or contact us by phone or email. If you want to come see our units in per- son, we will be at some of the biggest fairs in Florida in the 2020 season… we hope to see you there. We would love to chat about how we can help your fair have seating that is safe, reliable and affordable!
