Faircracker FALL 2019 For the past 24 years the Outdoor Amusement

Now that Bob has officially retired, the office has moved to 1305 Memorial Ave., West Springfield, MA, and two additional staff mem- bers have joined the OABA team. Sue Gallup, Admin- istration and Member Services Manager and Tim Kwiatkowski, Director of Sales and Member Ser-

The Commissioner of Agriculture in Florida appointed Charles Panacek of Belle City Amusements, Jay
Strates of Strates Shows, and Michael Wood of Wood Entertainment, to the Florida Amusement Device and Attraction Advisory Committee in early September. On September 25th, the Committee met and discussed the Rule Updates and the 2020 Proposed Statutory Changes that have been proposed by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Rule Updates should go into effect around November 1. The 2020 Proposed Statutory Changes include implementation of additional standards, reducing site visits from perma- nent parks, required signage, revised fines and fees, additional documentation for major modifications and other provisions. We will carefully monitor these proposed changes and work with the Department and our operators to make certain all are informed and changes reasonable for all parties.
During the advisory meeting, ride inspection statistics for fiscal year 2018/2019 were released. The number of ride permits were down from the previous year’s 1,817 to 1,712. There were 8,689 ride inspections con- ducted for all amusement devices regulated by the Department. The number of deficiencies was decreased to 19,248 from 22,756 totaling 47% of the inspected devices had no deficiencies; up from 44%.
For the first time, the portable industry will be meeting
together at ASTM in October. It is extremely important that more of our portable industry is represented at ASTM, as our operating conditions are unique and need to be part of the working standards group. More portable operators are joining ASTM and we certainly welcome any of our fair members to join us as well.
Overall, the fair and carnival industry has been strong
when the weather is on our side. Our operators provide the revenue that keeps many non-profits financially fit to fulfill their missions. We must continue to work together in managing the many issues that face our industries today.
We hope you have a safe and enjoyable season. We look
forward to seeing many of you at the IAFE International Convention in San Antonio.
