Deli Dish of the Day: CALLING ALL HOME COOKS!
Festival Bars
After you’ve shopped, tasted and sampled your way around the markets and local shops don’t forget you can enjoy a tasty tipple in the Festival Bar, sponsored by Salcombe Gin.
Situated on the South Embankment the Festival Bar will be open from 10am until 8pm on Friday & Saturday and 4pm on Sunday and will be showcasing five fabulous drinks producers:
• Salcombe Gin: locally distilled delicious gin and cocktails • Bays Brewery: award winning premium ales • Hunts Cider: traditionally made ciders
• Luscombe: soft drinks and juices • Sharpham Vineyard: award winning wines from the Dart Valley
To add to the convivial atmosphere there will be live music on Friday & Saturday evenings courtesy of Mick & Lucy (of Sax Appeal fame).
Sponsored by The Deli at Dartmouth FRIDAY OCT 18TH : THE COMMUNITY CAFÉ, MARKET SQUARE
It’s not all about Professionals at The Dartmouth Food Festival. This year’s competition is about soup, and Sally McGirr, who runs ‘The Deli at Dartmouth’ in Duke Street, is sponsoring us, and we would love you to enter:
• A soup which uses strict vegan or vegetarian ingredients • A soup which uses a meat or fish-based stock
You may submit entries for either or both categories, but please label your entry with your name, mobile/home phone number, and provide a list of ingredients. Do feel free to add a few sentences about your soup, its origin, or how it had been made if you wish.
What the judges will be looking for: Flavour is absolutely our number one criteria. Wherever your soup sits on the scale of simple through to intriguingly complex, it should be full of flavour and perfectly seasoned from the first mouthful.
Whether you offer us a smooth or chunky variety, we are looking for a good aroma, overall appearance, consistency and texture.
Now over to you! Entry is simple. Bring your product
to the Community Café, Market Square between 1 pm and 2.30 pm on Friday October 18th. It should be in a small container with a cupful of your COLD soup (and a garnish if you wish). We will heat it in the café and present to the judges for tasting. The winners will be announced by 4 pm, and you are free to collect your entry at any time between 4 and 4.30 pm.
Sally will put together a delicious ‘foodie’ hamper for the winner of each category, and we will provide a bottle of fizz for the runners up. The winning recipes will be cooked in the Deli (accredited to the winners of course).
