SPIDER BROOCH

Blow the cobwebs off your craft kit this Halloween by creating this sparkling beaded spider – the terrifyingly perfect finishing touch to any spooky costume.

You will need: • Silver bugle beads

• Black seed beads • Silver spacer beads • Large black bead • Medium black bead • Silver crimp beads • 24 gauge wire • Jewellery pliers • Brooch back • Strong glue

Method:

Cut 4 pieces of wire 11cm long and 1 piece 8 cm. To make the body, take the 8cm of wire and thread on one crimp bead. Bend the end of the wire back through the crimp creating a small loop. Using the pliers, apply pressure to flatten (be careful not to press too hard as the crimp could break). This will act as a stopper for your beads.

Thread 1 spacer bead, your large black bead (body) then your medium black bead (head) leaving a small gap between the head and the body. Crimp the end and cut off excess wire. For the legs, take a piece of wire and crimp the end as before then thread on the following beads: 1 black seed bead, 2 silver bugle, 1 seed bead, 1 spacer, (to form knee joint), 1 seed bead, 1 bugle, 1 seed bead.

Wrap the next section of wire between the head and body then repeat step 4 in reverse order and crimp to finish. You should now have a left and right leg in place. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the remaining 3 wires.

Check all ends are finished correctly and that no wire ends are exposed.

Attach a brooch back to the underside using strong glue in the two holes. Your spider brooch is now

complete. Happy Crafting!
