But despite expanding waistbands, many of us are larger than we realise and collectively kid ourselves about what a healthy weight and BMI looks like. Failing to understand the importance of reducing obesity could leave us open to serious health conditions such as heart disease, stroke and sleep apnoea. You’re 80 percent more likely to develop type-2 diabetes if your BMI is over 30 and now obesity has rivalled smoking as


the main cause of cancer. Then there are the psychological issues relating to being overweight such as low self-esteem and depression which often lead to more emotional eating.
