Welcome to the September issue

Congratulations to all the local students who received their exams results in the last few weeks. We do wish all local children who are starting, continuing or changing school or moving onto new challenges this month, the very best of luck.

We recently received a lovely letter from a reader wanting to congratulate John, the lollypop man on Wareham Road opposite Henbury View Road, for his services to the Corfe Mullen community. Helping school children to cross the road safely is an important and perhaps sometimes underappreciated job. The local Speedwatch team (pg34) is well aware of the dangers of this stretch of road, and encourages new volunteers to sign up if you too would like to help keep our community safer on the roads.

If you are looking to start something new this autumn, Corfe Mullen Badminton Club and Broadstone Choir (both on pg46) are looking for new members, a selection of pilates courses are on offer (pg55), local churches invite us to their harvest celebrations (pg26/57) and The Gallery Upstairs at Upton Country Park is running an art competition (pg59). Also, after another successful Carnival this summer, the organising committee is keen for new members to volunteer to help them to plan for 2020 (pg6).

It’s a worrying article from the Dorset Wildlife Trust this month on nurdles – small plastic pellets polluting our waterways and environment. DWT is keen for more people to sign up to beach cleans in particular to help fight this problem (pg30). Or why not join the next Corfe Mullen Litter Picking Group tidy up (pg56).

If you are thinking about advertising in our local community magazines on behalf of your business or a local community group or organisation that you are a member of, please do give us a call.

Until next time, Karen
