Corfe Mullen Parish Council Update

For many of us with children, September heralds the end of the summer and back to routine. However, hopefully we haven’t seen the last of warm days where we can enjoy our gardens and the outdoor spaces around the village.

2011 saw a piece of legislation brought by government called the ‘Localism Act 2011’. It was hoped the act would bring about wide-scale decentralisation to local communities, sadly there have been few signifi cant examples of its implementation.

However in Corfe Mullen we have been able to use part of this legislation by registering the existing BH Live site as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). Making this type of registration lists the land or property as being of importance to a local community and is subject to additional protection from development under the act. The listing of a property as an ‘Asset of Community Value’ lasts for fi ve years and the council has applied to re-list the BH Live site for a further fi ve years. Interestingly registering sport and leisure facilities is not a completely local idea, amongst others, Ewood Park, Old Trafford and St Andrews football stadiums have all been registered under the same legislation.

The Parish Council has also agreed to start a

programme of restoration of traditional fi ngerposts around the village and start to offer Parish Councillor surgeries, where you are invited to come and talk to councillors with ideas, concerns or items that the Council might be able to help with. More details to follow.

As we look towards the Autumn, many families across the village will have new beginnings to adjust to. Some will have children starting school, possibly joining siblings; others may be moving up a year, changing school, starting college, university, work based learning and some may have entered employment. All of this can be daunting and change is not always the fi rst thing we wish for. However all of these things mark the next step on life’s journey and I would like to wish all of our young people very best

wishes for this next part of their journey.
