The Pioneer View Dear Friends,
In this month’s Pioneer View, I want to outline the nature of vison and how we as the Growing Compassionate Communities’ charity are reaching out to communities to deliver this vison. It is not enough to simply have vision; it needs to be coupled with action.
“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.” Japanese proverb.
A key focus of our mission in communities in which we seek to serve is to ‘work towards inclusion of all diverse groups and peoples’. This central aim underpins our vision as a charity, but what are we doing about achieving this vision?
The primary route we adopt to promote inclusion is to practice radical hospitality, doorways for marginalised groups and peoples to reconnect and integrate back into community life. So far, we have provided several groups and activities that make this possible. These groups include carpet bowls, carer support group and drop-ins as well as dementia friendly walks. We also run a reminiscence group that is open to everybody, as are all of our groups.

is loneliness and isolation. So the vision is to reduce loneliness and isolation in all communities in which we serve. We plan to do this in a number of ways:
• To launch an online petition ‘End Loneliness Now’ • To set up a working group to map out a strategy to pool practice and publish a strategic document.
• To lead focus groups in communities. • To deliver a number of events. • To hold a conference to move the conversation about loneliness and isolation forward.
This is how we intend to deliver the vision of reducing loneliness and isolation in our communities. We need to be ambitious about this journey as it is my conviction that: “You’ve got to think about big things while you’re doing small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction.” Alvin Toffl er
I look forward to welcoming you to some of these events over the next year.
Go well
