I have to say that all the online dressage sites are extremely friendly and helpful, and alongside the standard dressage competitions run some really fun classes like Prix Caprilli, which is jumping and dressage combined. Prancing with Poles was another class that was great to do and only four poles were required. It really gives a horse and rider something to work towards each month, if you have a horse that is difficult to load, or you just don’t have time to get out to shows then this really is a perfect solution. You don’t need to have an arena, you can just mark out an area on grass and film it there. Your horse doesn’t even need to be pristine, it really is that easy and relaxed.
Another online class is Dressage to Music, this has increasingly gained in popularity and is enormously good fun, music can either be purchased online or edited at home with a good app, you can enter Intro, Prelim or Novice and explore your creative side sorting out both choreography and music, all the required movements for the tests will be sent on request so all you really have to do is ensure that the movements are included within your four or five minute freestyle.
I have sadly lost my camera woman as I persuaded Celia to do the pairs class with me, I replaced her with a robot camera, it doesn’t give advice, make tea or console when you get it wrong and sometimes shows more interest in a particular traffic cone I have in the school than in me but apart from those few blips we are getting on just fine. It’s a bit addictive this online competing thing.

A week after uploading my video I found myself avidly watching the Facebook page for the results over the next week and hey presto there I was, not last as I had thought, there I was, halfway down the page, not a rosette for my first attempt and definitely no threat to Charlotte, but not a bad score either and the feedback was just spot on and incredibly helpful. A few tests later I was ridiculously pleased to receive my first rosette and extraordinarily pleased to find that sweets were also included in the envelope! Waiting for the results was actually every bit as exciting as being at a show.
