When your nerves get the better of you ! A New Era of Coaching by Emma Dyer – Performance Coach
My passion has always been to help make a difference to others, so developing my coaching seemed an obvious choice. No matter what level you ride at – its meant to be fun. Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching
them. The essential part of coaching, is to help people to learn to silence that inner voice and allow their instincts, or their subconscious, to take over. Sometimes that means distracting it, and sometimes it’s about exploring the ‘worst case scenario’ and removing the fear. Emma has recently graduated from the APEC Programme (Applied Psychology for Equestrian Coaches) run by Sports Psychologists Charlie Unwin and Sarah Huntley.
I have undergone intensive additional training in sport and performance psychology, and have an in-depth understanding of the psychological side of equestrian sport.
If you are looking for a coach who really stands out from the crowd and who is also: • Knowledgeable, patient and approachable • Actively listens and seeks to understand your needs
• Highly skilled in the application of sport psychology for the equestrian athlete then please do get in touch.
Dismounted Coaching
Clients are welcome to attend 1-1 appointments at my home, in a private, quiet and relaxed setting to untangle some of the mysteries behind how they feel when riding, understand your beliefs and how they are affecting your behaviour in the saddle.
Group Talks
I regularly provide various talks on different areas of Performance, my most recent talk being aimed at Parents and how they can best support their children when riding under pressure, as well as my popular 5 part performance sessions starting again in September (numbers limited to 8) – already highly recommended by previous delegates.
Mounted Coaching
Emma coaches riders at their own yard on a 1-1 basis, to not only improve their riding but also their performance. There are many reasons why some riders may struggle with their performance, regardless of whether they ride in the school once a week or wish to compete. Emma can help you not only improve your technique and strategies but also focus on mind-set and other matters that may be holding you back from being the best you can be. Emma's teaching methods enable you to become responsible for your progress even when she's not there, creating a new way of thinking that hopefully will encourage quicker and longer lasting learning. ‘The course has dramatically altered the way in which I deliver my coaching and the results speak for themselves’ ‘I strongly believe that any good coach needs to start with the What, Why, How and When! If this doesn’t happen then riders cannot be accountable for their own progress when I’m not there. They need to be able to know what to do, when to do it, how to do it and why. I am An Advanced Coach through the Centre 10 Programme in Applied Psychology for Equestrian Coaches, alongside my previous BHS qualifications. I am Pony Club Approved, DBS Checked and First Aid Trained. My background and experience includes working for some top names in showjumping, hunting, ridden showing for owners (RI and County shows), and producing my own horses, (RoR, hunters & Riding Horses)
Testimonials
I've recently been through Emma's Performance course, which has helped me to break down the steps to regaining confidence and learning coping strategies. As a group we’ve created a great support network between the attendees too. I’m really looking forward to using the tools, and have already seen marked progress. Brilliant session Emma - thank you. So much great insight. Every mum of Equestrian kids should attend!
Forthcoming dates are already released on my Facebook page.
