(SHOW REPORT) Dacorum & District Riding Club
Season Report May - June 2019 at Westwick Row Farm, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire Report written by Deborah Sheldon
Dacorum & District RC are a local club based in Hemel Hempstead, with easy access from M1/M25. We run 5 unaffiliated open shows each year, catering to all abilities from tiny tots on lead reins to more experienced competitors. We have 6 rings, including clear round, jumping classes from 40cm to 1m, in hand and ridden showing, Intro and Prelim dressage and a ring for fun classes. DDRC Show Report April to June 2019 It has been a good season so far at DDRC. Three shows successfully completed, two more to go. We were very lucky to be able to continue running DDRC this season due to all of our show jumps (approximately 40 sets of wings and several sets of fillers) being stolen over last winter. However, with the kindness and goodwill of other local riding clubs, local people including our members, competitors and former competitors for their generosity, we managed to raise over £1000.00 to go towards replacing our jumps. We were also extremely lucky to have had approximately 20 sets of show jumps donated to us to enable us to continue. A great many hours of hard worked from the DDRC Committee, and volunteers, then gave up many hours, sanding and painting the new jumps to get them ready for the season. That said, we have had three busy shows so far this year. The showing has been incredibly busy and the ground has been much better for jumping and dressage as we have had plenty of rain to stop it getting too hard. It has been lovely to see many of our longstanding competitors return to support us for another season, and also to see a number of new faces who haven’t visited us before. We have held more qualifiers than ever before this year, some which we have held in previous years including Sunshine Tour, ESUK Grassroots Championship, Equifest, Royal London, Great Midland Horse Show, GB Rider Championships, TSR and H.O.P.E Show Championship and some new ones including Stars Championship and 15+. Our class winners so far this year will have qualified for a combination of the above Championships and we wish them the very best of luck.
