Charitable Causes, Promotion & Partnership


Narthex is a charity started in 1998 by St Johns Church in Sparkhill Birmingham. We have 21 staff, 100 volunteers supporting an average of 440 people a week. Narthex Centre provides support to people in need including low income families, young people, refugees and asylum seekers. Services include:


• Support and advice addressing needs of the most vulnerable including money/debt advice. We have a Financial Conduct Authority License.


• Foodbank/clothes bank, part of Trussell Trust Network, providing emergency supplies approx. three tons of food a week


• Supporting people into employment • Refugee Resource Centre • A welcome café • Boys’ and girls’ youth clubs • Weekly activities for vulnerable elderly people • Creative English classes • Supporting local carers


We raise all our own funds. We’ve three projects needing support: community café, a new vehicle and a new website.
