Home-from-home: The new Student Union building
£10m student union opens
A new state-of-the-art Students’ Union building has opened at Aston University. The £10m Adrian Cadbury building, named after the
former university chancellor, houses a café, bar and restaurant, shop, social spaces, prayer room, washing facilities, games area, media room, multi-exhibition and rehearsal space, as well as a work area for the union’s team of student officers. The new build, designed by architects Robothams
and erected by Clegg Construction, replaces the original 1960s Students’ Union building and is located at the heart of the university’s campus.
Amna Atteeq, the Students’ Union president at Aston
University, said: “I know students are going to absolutely love the new SU building and it’s going to become a home from home while they are studying at Aston. I’m going to be finishing my studies next year and I can’t wait to spend time enjoying the amazing new building.” The opening ceremony was attended by former
sabbatical officers of the SU, alumni donors and staff and students, while there were speeches from Amna Atteq and Aston vice-chancellor Professor Alec Cameron.
