2ND & 4TH JUNE FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS (12A) Based on the true story of 10 fi shermen from Cornwall who get signed to a record label and achieve a top 10 hit with their debut album of Sea Shanties. A fast-living, cynical London music executive heads to a remote Cornish village on a stag weekend where he’s pranked by his boss into trying to sign a group of shanty singing fi shermen.
9TH & 16TH JUNE RED JOAN (12A) The new thriller casts Judi Dench in a rewardingly complex role as a retired physicist who late in life is revealed to be a long-serving spy for the former Russian KGB. Adapted from the bestselling novel by Jennie Rooney it is inspired by the life of British KGB agent Melita Norwood (known as the ‘granny spy’) when she was unmasked in the late 90’s.
18TH & 19TH JUNE TOLKIEN (12A Based on the early life of J.R.R. Tolkien, this fi lm explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he fi nds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of WWI, which threatens to tear the ‘fellowship’ apart. These experiences would inspire him to write his novels.
