JUNE NEWS COOKIE WORLD RECORD BID!


Pupils from Benenden School created an enormous version of the school logo using more than 3,300 cookies in an attempt to set a new world record. The girls were hoping to set a new


offi cial Guinness World Record for the longest continuous line of cookies – the current record stands at 1,916 cookies, set last year in Turkey, but the pupils laid a 315m long line of 3,336 cookies, spelling out the ‘B’ from Benenden’s well-known logo.


The attempt had to be carried out following strict instructions and the girls will now submit all their evidence to the judges and keep their fi ngers crossed until


they hear whether their efforts have been ratifi ed and the world record is theirs. As part of the challenge, the girls had to be involved in the creation of the cookies so across three evenings every girl in Year 7-11 had the chance to cut the dough into cookie shapes. The entire event was conceived by the girls themselves and was the culmination of weeks of planning and hard work. It was run by prefects on their so-called Muck-Up Day, a traditional day when the Sixth Formers who leave Benenden in the summer take charge of the school, excluding lessons of course!

Encouraging young golfers Kent youngsters had their


chance to try a hand at golf as part of a programme of free coaching sessions


organised by Lullingstone Park Golf


Course (LPGC) in partnership with Kent Sport


and Physical Activity Service. The one-hour session enabled the youngsters to work with LPGC PGA head professional Mark Watt to learn the fundamentals of the sport. CHARITY OF THE MONTH The Oliver Curd Trust


Long-standing Tunbridge Wells travel company, CT Travel Group, held a quiz night at Woods Restaurant on The Pantiles to help raise funds for their 2019 nominated charity, The Oliver Curd Trust.


A charity very close to the heart of a member of staff, The Oliver Curd Trust was started in 2008 by Oliver’s parents, Richard and Sarah, in memory of Oliver who was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in April 2006, and sadly died in November 2007, at the age of nine. The charity provides holiday accommodation to families affected by childhood cancer and other life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, including those experiencing bereavement. The Oliver Curd


Trust seeks to provide memories, happiness and periods of escape for children and their families during diffi cult times. They have two fully-equipped caravans in East Sussex – one in Battle and one in St Leonards on Sea – both sites have restaurants, swimming pools and other entertainment. A raffl e was held on the evening, which raised £560 for the charity, taking the 2019 fundraising total so far to £1,000. Special thanks went to the directors at CT Travel Group, Carrier Luxury Holidays, All of America and British Airways for donating prizes. Founder and CEO of CT Travel Group, Mark Kempster, said: “I have always been very passionate about supporting local


causes and this one is particularly poignant as it’s close to the heart of a long-standing member of staff. The team voted on the charity they wanted the company to support and The Oliver Curd Trust came out the clear winner.
