‘Music technology is

an exciting area of practice

which should be accessible for all’

Leader for the BA (Hons) Creative Music Technology programme, said: “We believe that music technology is an exciting area of practice which should be accessible for all. Drawing on our own music and music technology resources, we hope to support YSWN in achieving

the aims of the WIRED project, and look

ambitions might take them.” YSWN will be offering six

mentorship/placement opportunities to young women aged 16-25. The aspiration is to establish relationships with music studios, record labels, sound engineering companies and hardware/software developers to host a mentee. It will offer a combination of practical

work experience of a week or two, plus six hours of one-to-one mentoring support and advice from an individual within the host organisation. If you know a group or individual

who may like to take part in any of this fantastic project, as a music technology club attendee, school or club hosting a workshop, or a company to help develop a young person’s skills and career, please get in touch: info@yorkshiresoundwomen.com

Apprentice in job swap challenge

A one-day job swap at Chesterfield’s Learning Unlimited has reaped rewards for apprentice, Josh Bown, as his experience of stepping into his manager’s shoes has led to a promotion for him. As part of National Apprenticeship Week last month,

Learning Unlimited saw its Operations Manager, Leah Shortt, switch jobs with business administration apprentice, Josh for a day. Josh, 18, took on Leah’s tasks, including taking a lead role in the weekly departmental meeting. During the day he also helped plan a marketing campaign and carried out a presentation alongside Commercial Director, David Higham. Meanwhile, Leah experienced what it was like to be

in Josh’s shoes. When the pair exchanged roles, Leah picked up his duties; talking to potential customers, answering enquiries and uploading content to the Learning Unlimited website. Learning Unlimited, which is part of the Chesterfield

College group, provides apprenticeships to more than 3,000 apprentices nationally and has over 30 apprentices within its own organisation. Josh has now progressed to an Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship, where he will be given greater
