A new month is with us; the month of the fl owers, the fi fth month of the year and also, the month in which celebrations take place! Welcome May!

The fi rst day of the month of May is known as May Day. It is the time of year when warmer weather begins and fl owers and trees start to blossom. It is said to be a time of love and romance. It is when people celebrate the coming of summer with lots of different customs that are expressions of joy and hope after a long winter. In Old English, May was known as the Month of Three Milkings – this was because cows could be milked three times a day. Much of the tradition of celebrating May Day derives from the Anglo-Saxon customs held during this time.

Venfest 2019 is celebrating the best of Dorset’s produce on Saturday 4th May at BH16 6AP in Lytchett Minster – featuring food and drink producers, chef demonstrations, arena family

activities, crafts and high quality musical entertainment. For further information, visit: www.venfest.org/
