ANNUAL ASSEMBLY 2019

Wednesday 15th May, 7pm St Dunstan’s Lounge • Presentation of Grant Aid cheques • Update by Dorset Police on local policing matters • Q&A with town councillors

Guest Speaker from Dorset Mammal Group: ‘Making Upton a Hedgehog Friendly Town’.

WILDFLOWER AREAS

I am sure the majority of residents will agree that the Council attempts to create wild fl ower areas or meadows, working in conjunction with Dorset Highways Ranger Services, has not been a spectacular success. Therefore, this year (if time and weather permit), we will be trialling three different methods.

Firstly, the area near Upton Country Park, at the exit of Upton Woods, will be cut and cuttings collected 4/5 times per year by the Ranger Service. The area is too rich in nutrients to sustain wild fl owers.

Secondly, at the Factory Road area, now owned by the Town Council, beds will be created out of the existing wild fl owers, where it is thought they are more likely to be productive. The rest will be cut regularly by us.

Finally, the area in front of the low brick wall on Poole Road, adjacent to the pedestrian crossing, will be rotovated and a wild fl ower seed mix of, for example, cornfl owers, poppies and cosmos sown annually.

However, Factory Road and Poole Road beds depend upon being able to have completed the necessary tasks by the time you read this article – which means we may have to wait another year for a fair comparison.

CONSIDERATE PARKING

It has come to the attention of the Town Council that the disabled parking bays outside the hairdressers in Poole Road and outside Rowlands Pharmacy, are being used by vehicles that are not displaying a blue badge.

We would ask that you please respect the disabled bays and only park there if you are a blue badge holder.
