Lytchett Minster & Upton Gardening Club
In March, Lois Phillips told us about compost making. She gave us a ‘Powerpoint type’ presentation. We all learnt something and were happy to welcome eight visitors to the evening as well as our members.
In April, Rob Ayres presented ‘The Rivers of Dorset.’ More about that next time.

This is a social event, open to all, with refreshments mid evening, so we hope to see you there, and to be able to chat and have fun.

Upton In Bloom
A Plea For Help: Those viewers who have been following “Britain in Bloom” on BBC2, will have witnessed communities coming together to create spectacular make-overs and fl oral displays throughout the country. Fundamental to the success of these ventures were the role of volunteers and the support of the business community. And despite the many successes of Upton in Bloom, we have never been able to tap into that business support, which would make such a difference. For each year, the In-Bloom judges, comment on the fact that the local shops do not display hanging baskets or tubs. Because of that, the Gold Award remains elusive. We, of course, accept that extra work would be involved, especially watering, but what a difference it would make to the appearance of Moorland Way, The Triangle and the Co-op area – and might even improve the footfall. We would supply them to interested parties on request. So please contact us or call into the Town Council Offi ces any weekday morning to enquire.
Welcome Back: We were delighted at our most recent meeting, to welcome representatives from Yarrells School which is re-joining our endeavours to impress the In-Bloom Judges.

Offi ces, Moorland Parade, the Upton Post Offi ce, Library, Central Café and shops, as well as other businesses around town. It does contain a number of changes, especially in the bakery and home produce classes for adults and in the children’s section. We are also increasing the number of trophies to be won.
NB: Would 2018 trophy holders please ensure trophies are returned to the Town Council Offi ces by the end of July. Thank you.
New Members: We were delighted to welcome two new members at our February meeting, Irene and Stuart McKell. For 16 years they were mine hosts at St Peters Finger and then established the very successful Lytchett Royal Cattery, before retiring to pastures new. Having settled in the town again, Stuart has already made his mark as a very active town councillor and we are very pleased that he and Irene are bringing their enthusiasm and gardening expertise to Upton in Bloom. YOU will be made very welcome if you would like to join us at our next meeting.
