Dorset Oatcake Company

Living for many years in the local community, having served in the Royal Marines, I decided to set up my own company making and supplying the famous Staffordshire oatcake.

Not many people

understand what an oatcake is and the benefi ts it can bring; it is often thought to be a biscuit from Scotland! But no, it’s like a pancake and so much more.

Oatcakes are completely free from additives and a great option for vegetarians – dependant on fi llings of course. Conclusions reached in 2010 by the European Food Safety Authority stated that oatmeal can lower the risk of heart disease when combined with a low-fat diet via the effect of Oat Beta-Glucan to reduce levels of blood cholesterol. They are high in manganese, an important mineral used throughout the body; high in selenium, which has antioxidant properties; and include vitamin E which helps regulate the thyroid to help with the immune system.

There are many fi lling options – my personal favourite is cheese and bacon – but try your own fi llings, like jam or yogurt and berries.

Any support in this new venture would be appreciated; my thanks go to the following businesses who are offering The Dorset Oatcake on their menus for you to enjoy:

• Broadstone Golf Club • Cargo Lounge, Broadstone • Upton Cafe • Foundry Arms, Poole • Jolly Sailor, Poole Quay

And The Dorset Oatcake is coming soon to:

• Cafe on the Crescent • Cobbs Yacht Club • Healthy Habits, Broadstone • The Fisherman Cafe, Poole Quay • The Blue Orange Juice Bar, Lower Parkstone • The Holme Bush Pub, Corfe Mullen • The Premier Shop, Blandford Road

If you are interested in offering Dorset Oatcakes on your menu, please give me a call.
