THE FIRST WORD
Welcome to the March edition of Business Network. One of the Chamber’s five core themes is “Connecting” – a phrase that undoubtedly means
different things to different people. For many, it will be synonymous with the idea of networking, fostering relationships,
uncovering common interests and developing (hopefully) long term mutually-beneficial partnerships. Of course there are many ways this can be achieved – be it through traditional networking
events, conferences and expos, sector-specific forums social gatherings and celebrations or simply having a hunch and picking up the phone. Yet one thing is consistent throughout – connecting and collaboration is a key component
to the vast majority of organisations. The way we go about it – and our ultimate goals - may be different but the act of collaboration remains a constant. This is the theme of March’s Business Network. On almost every page – especially the
Member News pages – you’ll find great examples of the power of connecting. In this edition, we also speak with Paul Baker of Leicester-based Bakers Waste. Paul’s is a particularly inspiring success story and he details how he took a challenge from a
colleague and turned it into a multi-million-pound-turnover business in a few short years – and how collaboration was crucial throughout. There are also a number of flagship events coming up that are profiled in March’s magazine
– such as the upcoming 2019 Manufacturing and Engineering Conference, supported by Lloyds Bank, and the highly-regarded Annual Dinner. There’s also news about the launch of the 2019 Chamber Business Awards, and details on
how your business could be a winner – including how we’ve made the application process even easier this year following your feedback. Business Network is a publication for you – our members – so if you have a story or an idea for a feature, get in touch by emailing
