MEMBERNEWS Encore boosts children’s charities
East Midlands-based recruitment agency Encore Personnel has raised over £18,000 for three children’s charities. Every year, staff from Encore,
which has a head office based in Leicester as well as Nottingham and Derby, nominate charities to support which are often influenced by causes close to their hearts. Last year, the team chose three vital children’s charities - The Sick Children’s Trust, Cardiac Risk in the Young and CLIC Sargent (Cancer Charity for Children and Young People). A year of fundraising has seen
Encore climb, cycle and bake its way to raise the much-needed funds. During the summer, employees raised £9,000 by taking on the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, which stands at a 1,345m above sea level, while others rallied together to hold regular dress down days, cake sales and sporting sweepstakes across each of the offices. The monies raised will now be
shared among the three charities. Chris Hockey, Director at Encore
Personnel, said: “From fancy dress to reaching new heights, our staff have been dedicated and determined over the past 12
L-R: Charlotte Webster, The Sick Children's Trust; Chris Hockley, Encore and Claire Herrick, CLIC Sargent
months to raise a substantial sum of money for these three vital charities. “We saw more staff than ever
before get involved and we also had a selected charity champion in each one of our nine offices in
charge of organising exciting regional events. It is brilliant to see that all their hard work paid off. “At Encore, we understand the importance of corporate social responsibility and giving back to the community.
“As part of this, we have always
encouraged staff to put forward charities that have impacted them or a family or friend. It creates a fantastic team spirit as our staff come together with a common goal to raise as much money as possible.”
Cycling challenge offers fun in the sun
The Lubrizol team has helped raise thousands for charity
Lubrizol staff put their minds to fundraising
Staff at a Derbyshire firm have baked cakes, grown moustaches and run hundreds of miles to help raise a record-breaking sum of money for a mental health charity. Workers at Lubrizol, in
Hazelwood, near Belper, went above and beyond the call of duty to raise a grand total of £16,200 for Derbyshire Mind – the largest sum collected by the firm to date. Mind has been the company’s
nominated charity for the past two years and it hosted an event to say thank you to everyone who raised money, which was also attended by Nicola Ward, Community Development Manager for the
charity, whose job was created thanks to the funding. Nicola said: “We are hugely
grateful to everybody at Lubrizol for their fantastic efforts, especially because we are a small charity. “The money raised at Lubrizol
has directly benefited local people and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has helped us.” Lubrizol spokesman Karen Clegg
said: “Our staff never cease to amaze us with their fundraising capabilities, and they have excelled themselves by collecting such a remarkable total over the past two years.”
Two Derby businessmen have laid down the gauntlet for others to join them for a weekend cycling challenge in Mallorca and Derbyshire in April. Dean Jackson, founder and
owner of triathlon kit specialists HUUB and David Torrington, Managing Director of Sky Recruitment Solutions, are planning the 193-mile challenge on 13-14 April, and are inviting other cycling enthusiasts to join them. Everyone taking part will be
asked to raise money for two Derby causes - Derbyshire Institute of Sport which supports athletes to become world class and Annabel’s Angels which provides financial assistant to local people undergoing cancer treatment. For those people unable to cycle in Spain, the team offer a more
local cycling challenge. Dean said: “This is a challenge akin to the Land’s End to John
O’Groats – but with sunshine - and is the perfect way to encourage people to get back into shape. “This is about using sport to get fitter, raise money and spread the
word of Derbados being the new cycling capital of the UK – if not the world.” David added: “I hope that the Derby business community in particular will get right behind us to support two amazing Derby- based causes and have some fun in the sun at the same time.”
