Contractor’s support for rescue training
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) has been working in partnership with Midlands contractor G F Tomlinson, using tunnels beneath Nottingham Castle and scaling tower cranes at the University of Nottingham for rescue training. 30 firefighters from London Road,
Highfields and Newark stations have undertaken the training so far. In tunnels beneath the Ducal
NFRS undertakes high-rise rescue training at GFT’s building site at the University of Nottingham
Palace at Nottingham Castle, which is currently undergoing extensive works as part of the £30m Castle Transformation Project, firefighters utilised specialist breathing apparatuses to undertake ‘confined spaces’ training.
At the University of Nottingham’s
Centre for Biomolecular Sciences (CBS) Expansion, where G F Tomlinson is currently delivering a £23m expansion, firefighters used two tower cranes for high-rise rescue training. Andy Sewards, Director at G F
Tomlinson, said: “It’s extremely important that we give back to the community whenever possible, so to be able to help our local first responders undertake training exercises that could save lives in the future is very rewarding. “We look forward to continuing to
support the local fire service on both of these sites and accommodating further training exercises this year.”
UK’s largest corporate uniform supplier raises £28k for charity
Dimensions, the UK’s largest corporate uniform supplier, has raised an impressive £27,800 for charitable causes in 2018. The main beneficiaries of the
fund were: Cancer Research UK; Macmillan Cancer Support; Glory Bandhu Protim Samaj Kallayan Sangstha School in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as well as the Neonatal Unit of each major East Midlands trust - University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust; University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. 2018 saw cake sales, quizzes,
raffles, staff car washes, auctions and dress down days, among other activities, contribute towards the overall total of almost £28,000. The fund was split between local,
national and international charitable causes, allowing for employees to vote for the charity they wished to be presented with the fund. Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support were equally split for the national fund, while the international section saw the Glory Bandhu Protim Samaj Kallayan Sangstha School, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, chosen. Hayley Brooks, said: “Charity is an important part of what we do at Dimensions, with a lot of annual activities planned. “It is crucial for businesses to support their local communities,
and I’m delighted we are also able to help important causes that affect so many, like Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support. “2018 additionally saw us support
a local school in Bangladesh, which was very rewarding, as we like to support communities both in the UK and overseas.”
