First Midlothian Rifle Volunteers Officer’s Green Cloth Helmet c. 1878 -87, the skull complete with all plated fittings, the frontal plate is of other ranks pattern, not unknown for Scottish Volunteer Units of crowned star pattern with laurels, central circular strap ‘First Midlothian Rifle Vols’, the plate is original to the helmet, buff leather sweatband and purple silk lining, a small dent to the front peak metal trim otherwise in very good overall condition

3rd Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteer Corps Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1878-1901, the skull complete with all silver plated fittings, the frontal plate of crowned eight pointed star pattern with laurel overlays and circular strap ‘3rd Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers’, in the centre on a black cloth ground a strung bugle horn, buff leather sweat band and retailer’s label for ‘F.W. Flight, Winchester’, the plate not original to the helmet, the chin chain of 1869 shako pattern and one rear panel of the skull with melted patent leather accretions, the plating on the frontal peak now showing a gilt ground, otherwise good sound condition £300-£400
