a flagship Flair version which with 2.0 litre diesel engine, 8-speed auto gearbox and features such as panoramic sunroof, park assist and aircraft style drop- down tables, costs £30,285. Other features include a 12-inch HD central display,

parking sensors and reversing camera, hands-free tailgate, media streaming and smartphone mirroring, auto parking brake and hill-start assist, dual-zone air- conditioning and programmable cruise control.

AS A FAMILY VEHICLE,

THE C4 SPACE TOURER IS HARD TO FAULT.

The cabin is light and airy, the wrap-around windscreen gives great visibility and there is ample space for five adults. The rear seats slide and fold for extra load versatility and even with all seats in use there is still a substantial 793 litres of boot space, expanding to a massive 2,181 litres with rear seats folded. The dashboard is wide and deep and most controls are operated via a large central touchscreen. Underway, the Allspace is smooth

and responsive and the compliant suspension irons out rough surfaces

and shallow potholes. The steering is light and agile but at speed, I found the feedback just a little muted. Top speed is 130 mph and the 0-60 mph is crisp at 8.3 seconds. Average fuel economy is impressive at 58.9 mpg and emissions are 128 g/km. As a family vehicle, the C4 Space Tourer is hard to

fault. It delivers style, space, comfort and economy at prices which undercut most key rivals in the sector, and it should be on the short-list of anyone planning to buy an MPV.

VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN ALLSPACE

VOLKSWAGEN’S FIVE-SEATER TIGUAN SUV WAS AN IMMEDIATE SUCCESS, SO THE GERMAN COMPANY HAS BUILT ON THIS STRONG MARKET PRESENCE TO CREATE A LARGER SEVEN-SEAT VERSION, THE TIGUAN ALLSPACE. In addition to its extra capacity, the Allspace has

revised front-end styling to help distinguish it from its stablemate, and prices start at £29,515 for a well-speci- fied entry version. There are petrol and diesel engines

and three trim levels, and my test model was a mid-range SEL with 7-speed DGS auto gearbox and a 187 hp 2.0 litre diesel engine. Laden with extensive extra features, this version costs £38,060. The standard features list on this version runs to 69

THE CABIN HAS AN AIR OF QUALITY AND DURABILITY, WITH A USER-FRIENDLY CONTROL LAYOUT.

8.6 seconds. Average fuel economy is 47.9 mpg and emissions are 153 g/km. The cabin has an air of quality and durability, with a user-friendly control

items, so be assured it is well equipped! Highlights include driver fatigue detector, all-wheel-drive with four setting for varying surfaces, panoramic sunroof, three- zone air-conditioning, front and rear parking sensors, sat-nav, connectivity functions, digital instrument display and adaptive cruise control, plus a raft of safety systems. Out and about, the Allspace drives beautifully, with

precise steering, composed cornering with plenty of grip and well-balanced suspension for a comfortable and relaxing ride. Its overall driving dynamics put it top of its class in my view. Top speed is 130 mph and the 0-60 mph time a nippy

layout. Access to the rear seats is good though they are primarily designed for use by children. Luggage space is excellent, with 700 litres available with the third row of seats folded, and a massive 1,775 litres with both rows folded. There is a variable-height boot floor, capacious door pockets and useful sliding drawers under the front seats which all add to its practicality. Rivals in the sector include the Skoda Kodiaq and

the Peugeot 5008 but the Tiguan Allspace is so strong in all departments, I feel it heads the pack. Volkswagen expects sales of the Allspace to be almost equally divided between business and private buyers, further

underlining its wide appeal. All quoted prices were correct at time of going to press
