Talent Inspiration Programme in Manchester Sept 2015

Yr 10 Swindon Cup Winners

Highworth Warneford School Success in the Football 2015 Season

The 2015 season saw football success for the students of Highworth Warneford School, Swindon.

Aleasha Caple and Bex Fry

After the success of Tom Poolman and Ella Daly in 2014, Kingdown put forward a further two more exceptionally talented young athletes, Aleasha Caple and Bex Fry. The TIPs programme enables pupils with the potential to succeed in sport the opportunity to meet athlete mentors and complete workshops that highlight the desire and drive that is required to achieve their own goals. Aleasha and Bex were 2 of only 200 pupils to experience this inspirational programme in Manchester.

“We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Manchester for this year’s TIP programme. From the endless amounts of activities to the inspiring, motivational workshops. We were brought directly out of our comfort zones and shown the futures we could achieve, but also the steps and risks needed to be taken to get there. We were taught the 6 main qualities that Olympians have stated are required to be successful in sports, these were; Mental Toughness, Hunger to Achieve, People Skills, Sports Knowledge, Breaking Barriers and Planning for Success. We spent a long time breaking down

these qualities to the very basics, thinking about how we can apply them to our everyday routines and we participated in numerous activities that relating to them.”

Aleasha stated that her favourite part of the trip was experiencing the Velodrome where they spent time completing activities the cyclists would use in their own training programmes before getting to watch them in action competing in time trials. Bex enjoyed the “Team You” and “Goal Setting” sessions. Highlighting all the support she receives from the people around her and allowing her to aim towards something. Bex also enjoyed seeing the National School Games competitors in the Velodrome (our own Paige Fellows competed at these games previously).

“We would like to thank the Kingdown PE department for continually supporting our progress and sporting success (and Mr Richardson for nominating us), it was a wonderful experience and one we would recommend to anybody who is offered the opportunity. We will use our experiences to ensure we succeed in our sports”

Yr 9 Team 6 Wiltshire and Swindon Relay

The Year 8 boys were Swindon Schools finalists and Year 9 Swindon and Wiltshire Champions. In the Swindon Cup they beat Lydiard Park Academy 5-2 – The scorers were Luke Haines, Dan Reynolds (2), Harry Drag and Harry Trueman. In the Wiltshire Cup they beat Lydiard Park Academy 1-0 the scorer was Luke Haines.

The Year 10 boys became Swindon Schools Champions beating Commonweal 1-0-Josh Ukoha scoring the winning goal and the Year 11 boys reached the Swindon Schools finals.

The boys also went on a week long football tour to Feyenoord FC in Holland where they spent the week at the 1st team training ground, receiving sessions from their professional coaches. While there the boys also played Dutch opposition in a number of friendly fixtures, which they won.

There has been success for the teaching staff too.

Yr 9 Swindon Cup Winners

Following on from the schools success last year myself and my colleague Alex Bush have been asked to manage the under 15 Swindon School’s FA representative side in the ESFA National Cup. 5 Warneford football teams have progressed to the 2nd round of the ESFA National Cup and the Year 8 Team won 5-4 beat Cheltenham Bournside School to move into round 3.

We are also in the initial stages of planning our next football tour to Benfica Football Club in Portugal.

The Girls also saw success with the Year 7 representing the school as Wiltshire Cup Finalists and the Year 8 finishing 3rd in the South West of England competition.
