Welcome to the 5th Edition of the Relay Magazine

Welcome to what is now our fifth edition of Relay and our largest yet. This increase in size of this edition reflects the healthy state of school sport in the County and the enthusiasm we are seeing from schools to share their stories. In this edition we have the results from the successful 2015 Schools Games programme along with stories from some of the Counties young athletes who took part in the National School Games event in Manchester. We also have contributions from a number of schools about their school sport weeks and the success of their students in other sports competitions.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition of Relay and please do continue to share with us your sporting news.

Steve Boocock, CEO, Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP) Panathlon Challenge Disability School Games June 2015

The 2015 annual School Games Panathlon disability Competition was a great success really bringing smiles to the faces of all involved from the Young Athletes, Marlborough College Student Volunteers and helpers alike.

80 students, aged 9-18, took part in this competition, representing schools from across the county including Uplands and Brimble Hill Schools in Swindon, St Nicholas and Frogwell Schools Chippenham and Larkrise in Trowbridge.

There were five main areas of competition, including the Paralympic sport Boccia, as well as Table Cricket, New Age Kurling, Polybat, and Indoor Athletics, including Javelin, relay races and a Wheel Chair Slalom.

The event ran very smoothly thanks to James and his colleagues from the London based Panathlon Challenge as well as Alma and the team from Wiltshire and Swindon Sport.

Panathlon Games. They sent 5 of their staff to see first-hand the impact their support for this programme has and of course helped support the athletes taking part.

This competition continues to be supported by Marlborough College and students from their Lower Sixth undertaking the International Baccalaureate. This year they were joined by a couple of students from their partner school in Swaziland and provided the officials and volunteers at each of the competitions.

Our Sporting Champion, Paralympian Swimmer Kate Grey was a real inspiration to the young athletes and along with the Marlborough College students presenting the medals. As

These athletes really do embrace the School Games values of Self Belief, Determination, Teamwork, Respect, Passion and Honesty.
