Primary Sports Premium Update

How to use the Primary Sport Premium

These should include the following:

 Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

Teacher CPD training courses

The Government’s vision for the use of the Primary Sport Premium Funding is that all pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

OBJECTIVE: To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools.

We would expect indicators of such improvement to include:

 the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick- starting healthy active lifestyles

 the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement

 increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport

 broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils

 increased participation in competitive sport (DfE January 2015)

This means that you should use the premium to:

Develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

For example, you can use your funding to:

 hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life clubsrun sport competitions increase pupils’ participation in the School Games run sports activities with other schools

You should not use your funding to:

 employ coaches or specialist teachers to cover planning preparation and assessment (PPA) arrangements - these should come out of your core staffing budgets teach the minimum requirements of the national curriculum - including those specified for swimming (or, in the case of academies and free schools, to teach your existing PE curriculum)

2. All schools should display Primary P.E. and Sport Premium information on their individual school website i.e. not just on a shared website such as that of a Multi Academy Trust (MAT).

3. Post the amount of grant received for the whole academic year on your home school website e.g. Both split payments = total amount of grant received. NOT THE FINANCIAL YEAR

Publication of the Primary Sport Premium Funding - Ofsted Expectations

 Ofsted have set out clear guidance as to their expectations. All schools must publish details of how the funding is spent and the effect it has had on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment.

These should include the following:

 Your PE and sport premium allocation for the current academic year details of how you intend to spend your allocation details of how you spent your previous academic year’s allocation how it made a difference to the PE and sport participation and attainment of the pupils who attract the funding

How can your school meet these expectations?

1. All information regarding the Primary P.E. and Sport Premium should be in an easily accessed section of the website alongside the pupil premium e.g. Key Information. Further support is available from your County Sports Partnership (CSP), Wiltshire and Swindon Sport either via the website http://www. wiltssport.org.uk/schools/primary- school-premium or by email rik@ wiltssport.org

5. Ensure that the 2015-16 report is on your website no later than 4th April 2016.

6. The report must show the breakdown and detailed impact and progress of the funding. An example of best practice can be found at http://www.monktonpark.wilts.sch. uk/wilts/primary/monktonpark/ site/pages/news/sportpremium/ sportspremiumgrant

7. Ofsted may ask to see your documents evidencing the impact and progress e.g. registers, questionnaires, parent/ teacher feedback, pupil voice etc.
