What does your company do? We put waste to good use by extracting valuable recycling materials and energy from it.

How did it all start? We began in November 1988 when our French parent company SITA entered the British market for council domestic waste collection services.

What’s your greatest achievement so far? Guiding the company successfully through a cultural and business model change over the last 10 years.

What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? Becoming an expatriate and working in first France and then Sweden for over 12 years. The risk paid off as I had the chance to experience new cultures and business practices which has helped me become CEO for the UK business.

What keeps you awake at night? The worry of the health and safety of our employees.

If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? Hindsight is a wonderful idea and therefore I would turn the clock back 10 years to be able to use all the knowledge and experience I’ve

learnt over that time to accelerate the transformation of SUEZ UK.

What advice would you give to someone starting out? Find an industry that you believe in and have a passion for. After that it's down to your ability and hard work to how far you can go.

Which business do you most admire? I admire Toyota because in our movement to become a more production-orientated company we have learnt so much from their lean and continuous improvement philosophy.

What exciting projects is your business working on? The continued transformation of the UK recycling and waste industry driven by Government policy gives us a fantastic platform for continued growth through new infrastructure projects. We have several significant opportunities currently.

What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? We are developing our business in Birmingham and see membership of the Chamber of Commerce as an ideal way of gaining knowledge and contacts within the city.
