Quality teacher training
Arden Academy in Knowle has been designated as a teaching school and its staff will play key roles in attracting and training the next generation of teachers. As part of the process, Arden executive principal Martin Murphy is one of more than 50 head teachers to be appointed to the role of ‘national leader of education’.

National leaders of education and the staff in
their school – appointed as ‘national support schools’ – use their knowledge and experience to provide additional leadership capability in other schools in need of support. The national leaders of education also have responsibility for developing the next generation of national support schools. Arden Academy is one of more than 40
schools that have become national teaching schools.
Students are made up
over new Aspire studio Solihull College & University Centre has celebrated the opening of the new ‘Aspire’ Make Up Studio at Blossomfield Campus. The studio was officially opened by
professional special effects make-up artist Stuart Bray who has worked on huge film and TV shows including Harry Potter, Saving Private Ryan, The Mummy, Shaun of the Dead and Stardust. Stuart has most recently worked in the
prosthetics team on the set of Game of Thrones. The event was attended by staff, students,

Preparing the route is the first step
industry experts including Vanity Doll and suppliers including Pierre Rene and Treasure House of Makeup, who were all able to explore the new studio and experience a workshop from Stuart on injury makeup. The studio will cater for the growing area of
make-up artistry and theatrical make -up and special effects make-up, for the new provision. It will be used to enhance new skillsets in make-up artistry and creative hair designs. The courses on offer have led to massive
growth in the area and a HNC programme is on the horizon for September 2019.
