Stockholm data centre contributes to district energy
scheme DigiPlex, the leading Nordic data
center operator, and Stockholm Exergi, (formerly Fortum Värme), the leading heating and cooling supplier of Stockholm, Sweden, have entered a large-scale heat reuse agreement. The agreement is the world’s first under which an operational data center, with an indirect evaporative air-to-air cooling solution, will be retrofitted to recover excess heat for the local district heating system. The agreement corresponds to heating up to 10,000 modern residential apartments. “We as individuals are contributing to climate change and at DigiPlex, we are very proud to lead the industry by using the excess heat from our Stockholm data centre to heat thou- sands of households,” says Gisle M. Eckhoff, DigiPlex CEO.
SWEP wins 51MW heat transfer unit at
DTU, Copenhagen SWEP has been awarded its largest
ever contract for a single heat transfer unit. SWEP’s customer is Vestforbraend-
ing I/S, Denmark’s largest waste management company. Each year it handles around 1 million tonnes of waste and then focuses on producing energy from waste incineration. The new project will involve distributing 51 MW from Lundtofte Vekslerstation, the Danish Technol- ogy University (DTU), to serve the district heating network which supplies residential and commercial properties in the surrounding western area of Copenhagen.
MTU Yuchai Power Celebrates Production of the first MTU Series 4000 Engine
assembly lines for high-volume series production are in full swing, with the large test bench required for engines with power outputs of up to 3,500 kW and as many as 20 cylinders currently being calibrated. Ever since the joint venture received all
MTU Yuchai Power, a joint venture set up between Rolls-Royce Power Systems and the Chinese diesel engine manufac- turer Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company, is preparing for the start of series production of MTU Series 4000 engines. On 9th April, in the presence of over 100 guests, Yan Ping, Chairman of Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company, together with Andreas Schell, President of the Rolls-Royce Power Systems business unit, unveiled the first MTU Series 4000 engine manufactured in Yulin. Preparations for the completion of the
the necessary regulatory approvals in 2017, preparations for the start of production have been in full swing – modifications to an existing production building in Yulin in southern China have been completed. Production facilities have been installed and logistics and quality processes already agreed on with the teams. Members of the workforce from Yuchai
with the required experience have completed training in MTU engine production in Friedrichshafen that will enable them to fulfil their future responsibilities. In future, they will manufacture MTU engines in Yulin in accordance with the same quality standards which currently apply in Germany and the USA.
Capstone wins Portugal microturbine order The Capstone Turbine Corporation, a clean technology producer of low-emission
microturbine systems headquartered in the US, has won an order for a C600 Signa- ture Series microturbine to provide combined heat and power (CHP) to a Portuguese textile mill, Micropower Europe. The company is Capstone’s distributor in Portugal and Spain.
The textile mill required an increase in their production capacity and sought an
efficient solution for their plant expansion. Instead of importing more power from the local utility at extremely high rates, they considered breaking away from the unstable and overpriced utility by becoming part of the global distributed generation (DG) energy revolution. A natural gas-fuelled Capstone C600S microturbine provides the ideal solution for the textile mill by generating clean and green electricity on-site. The thermal energy from the exhaust is used in a direct-fire application in one of the processes at the textile mill, making their production more efficient while significantly reducing their operating expense. According to the European Commission, European Union (EU) exports to the rest of the world represent more than 30% of the world market, with total revenues of €177 billion. The EU is one of the largest textile exporting regions in the world, with Italy, Germany, Spain, France, and the Netherlands as the leading countries in the clothing industry in the EU. Darren Jamison, president and chief executive officer of Capstone said, “The project is a blueprint for other textile mills all over Europe, paving the way for others to improve their bottom-line with microturbines.”
