Priority powerlines in Puerto Rico now operational thanks
to work by Fluor Fluor Corporation has completed
work on portions of three priority 38kv power lines in large urban areas near San Juan and a fourth priority 38kv line near Caguas. The work is part of a major initia-
tive in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in support of a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mission to help repair and fully restore the power grid in Puerto Rico. The project completion allows the
Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) to re-energize lines in Rio Piedras, Caguas and Minillas, as well as lines that run from Canóvanas to Palmer. These lines carry electricity to a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Caguas, schools, residential neighborhoods and several busy commercial districts. “Every day, our crews go to their
work sites knowing that what they are doing is vitally important to the people of Puerto Rico,” explains Matt Hunt, Fluor’s executive program director, Puerto Rico Power Restora- tion Project. “We work in close coordination
with PREPA and the Corps to make progress every day, and we have brought additional resources to the island to ensure we complete our job as safely, quickly and as efficiently as possible.”
Fluor has had more than 1,600 peo- ple on the island dedicated to the restoration of power. The company has purchased more than $37 million in goods and services from over 60 local subcontractors and vendors.

47 AW125/3150 and AW125/3000 turbines with a combined capacity of around 147 megawatts and a high capacity factor of more than 47%. The contract comprises the delivery of the turbines including the towers, which are to be produced in South Africa, as well as service for at least 15 years. Local installation work near Laingsburg will be commencing in 2019, creating a good 700 jobs in the construction and operation of the wind farm. Through a broad based approach this job creation will benefit local communities empowering young South
Africans to build their future in clean energy.
Moreover, the farm will improve the country's carbon footprint as it will reduce around 24,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions from the production of electricity each year. Building Energy, the customer and
owner of the wind farm, is committed to improving the world´s future by investing in clean power stations. With operations all around the globe, the independent power producer applied for a feed-in licence in 2015 in the fourth round of tenders in South Africa this licence was officially accepted by energy minister Jeff Radebe at the beginning of April 2018. The 27 projects approved by the minis- ter include further wind farms for the Nordex Group. However, these additional projects are not yet official.
VINCI ‘nearly finished’ on new PV project
VINCI Energies, via its brand dedicated to energy transition - Omexom, is three months off complet- ing a contract with the Société d’Electricité du Sénégal - Senelec. It has been tasked with building eight photo- voltaic power plants with a combined capacity of 17 MW in Senegal by July 2018.
The project represents a €26.8 million
investment, financed by the German bank KFW and Senelec. Project handover has been scheduled for July 2018. The new plants, made up of a total of 62,850 solar panels, will be spread over four large regions: the Saloum Islands and the Thiès region in the western part of the country and the Tambakounda and Kolda regions in the east. They will enable Senegal to supply power for very

isolated sites and to diversify its energy mix. The Thiès plant, which will be directly connected to the grid, will have installed capacity of 15 MW. The other seven plants, which have a hybrid (PV- diesel) design, some with battery storage, will have a total combined capacity of 2 MW.
